LETHE "VOMIT IN THE SHALLOWS" 2CDr (AOW 113)

All new drone work from Lethe.  While an ongoing revival of the project is not in the cards, I created two pieces that seemed to fit under the Lethe umbrella more comfortably than any of my other current musical incarnations.  "Vomit In The Shallows" is a gurgling trawl through tarred out drone sludge, deep synthesizer creep and crawl oozing out into a pustulent strain of diseased, gagging ambience to numb the mind and blacken the consciousness.  An amalgamation, perhaps, of the sort of spacedrone found on early albums like "And Come Death Shall I Forget" and the obstinate repetitiveness of later efforts like "Sanctity."  Disorienting and somewhat sickly through headphones, "Vomit In The Shallows" is a worthy entry in the Lethe lexicon.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 5 hand-numbered copies.  $15 ppd. in the United States, $27 rest of world.

LETHE "THE FAILURE OF IMAGINATION: COLLECTED RECORDINGS" 3CDr (AOW 95)

The first release in a compilation series documenting the early work of Lethe, "The Failure of Imagination" brings together a wealth of material previously only available digitally.  This collection assembles works touching on myriad styles, from all out HNW experimentation to buzzing electrodrone, from sludged out metal posturing and severe noise rock to hypermelodic gaussian blurs, from vacant declarations of yearning to brain-numbing krautrock soundtrack derivations.  The intent of my ongoing musical project becomes more obscure and more defined simultaneously, a trip into the ether and a whisp of ideas once considered.  A massive set in every way, with liner notes detailing the origins of each track by yours truly.  It's fantastic to finally be able to release these recordings in a physical format, and I hope you enjoy them.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 9 hand-numbered copies.  $18 ppd. in the United States, $30 rest of world.

ABYZM "PYRE" CDr (AOW 107)

The first of several planned albums from Abyzm, "Pyre" is a devastating slab of pummeling ANW that will bludgeon you into beautiful, narcoleptic submission.  Huge oozing slabs of glacial distortion and fuzz roll over your brain and eradicate whatever connections to the corporeal you may have, a hypnotic sojourn into the deepest realms of the unconscious designed to lead you into the ether.  Abyzm have created some of the most dense and uncompromising ambient walls I have ever heard, and listening to this record really is a journey into the outer reaches.  It's heavy as fuck but so gorgeously constructed and designed, a deep mind massage in the best and most intense way possible.  Absolutely immersive and transportative, a sonic engagement with outer dimension excess.  Bow down before the might of the ambient noise wall.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 20 hand-numbered copies.  $10 ppd. in the United States, $22 rest of world.

HELIACAL SHIMMER "HAUNTED WOOD" 2CDr (AOW 81)

Super psychedelic noise explosions from this mysterious HNW entity, a scream from the neon void and an utter brain-melting wipeout.  Heliacal Shimmer's work on "Haunted Wood" recalls the best work of the old Japanese masters (Merzbow, Masonna, Aube) while carving out a space distinctly its own, culminating in a record of intense focus, precision, and imagination.  This is some speaker shredding shit but so layered and composed that you'll want to throw the headphones on and spend days trying to take it all in.  Your ears will bleed and you'll be surprised when your blood doesn't ooze out in a rainbow.  Kaleidoscopic horror meets insane excess and violence in one of the more truly radical recordings I've heard in a long time.  Heliacal Shimmer will fry your mind and then numb the shivers of goop left splattered on the walls.  A bad acid trip rendered into sound, an explosion of colour and a reverent mass of true noise.

CORY STRAND "THE SHINING: TARRIANCE" 2CDr (AOW 93)

All new proper album of my reinterpretations of Wendy Carlos' unused soundtrack pieces from Kubrick's The Shining, continuing my explorations of the film's hidden recesses and power through sound.  "The Shining: Tarriance" focuses mostly on the spectral powers of the Overlook itself, an attempt to sonically map the tendrils of the hotel's supernatural reaches into the physical.  The resultant sounds are sonorous and unsettling, thick and immersive bass textures sitting alongside washed out cries and dissonant echoes from the unconscious.  More about the descent into madness than the violence spawned from the descent, "The Shining: Tarriance" is a lengthy journey through some extremely dark spaces, where eroticism and frustration begin to bloom into the rancid flowers of blood and sacrifice.  I never get tired of working with this material.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 10 hand-numbered copies.  $15 ppd. in the United States, $27 rest of world.

CORY STRAND "DOUBLE NOISE GONZO" 2CDr (AOW 106)

The fetid spectre of rock n' roll rears its weary head on "Double Noise Gonzo," a sick track by track rework of Ted Nugent's eponymous debut album.  In working with this material I tried to tap into what I feel must have been Ted's mindset at the time, a lustful hedonism combined with ridiculous swagger and ego resulting in some of the more bombastic and layered wall material I've created.  This one is cranked to 11 with an insane amount of psychedelic texture and crunch.  Abrasive but strangely beautiful at the same time, I feel I've captured some of what Nugent was getting at and gone beyond, creating a monolith of rock gargantua that pays homage to and completely destroys its source material.  This record was really fun to make, and hopefully it'll tear your face right the fuck off.

CORY STRAND "TWISTED ABDUCTION" 2CDr (AOW 110)

Massively elongated versions of one of the pieces found on my upcoming release for Occult Supremacy, "Poltergeist: A Reinterpretation."  Obviously drawn from Jerry Goldsmith's bombastic score for the film, "Twisted Abduction" explores both the dread, unease and growing horror found throughout Tobe Hooper's masterpiece as well as evokes the true and consuming terror presented at the film's apex, where the realm of the dead assert itself upon that of the living in a show of vengeance and disgust.  Disc one is a drone piece of tremendous depth and somnambulist synthesizer texture while disc two takes the same material and blows it well beyond the pale with an avalanche of bass heavy feedback and destructionist wall sculptures.  Terror and anger united in a devastating expanse.  They're here.

CORY STRAND "THE SHINING: ANCILLARIES, VOL. VII" CDr (AOW 108)

The seventh volume in a series of recordings utilizing Wendy Carlos' unused compositions for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.  I've done a lot of work with this soundtrack in the past, and this series represents a deeper exploration of Carlos' original vision for the film score, a bizarre parade of tonal environments and shrieking ghostly ululations that for whatever reason did not fit Kubrick's vision.  The music showcased on these volumes is material that would not necessarily work as albums proper-they are individual manipulations and constructions intended to highlight specific compositions as opposed to the thematic whole of an album.  As such, they are glimpses of records that might have been, or perhaps are in an alternate realm.
"Volume VII" is an exercise in drone horror, as eerie bleats of discordance and tonal impurity give way to crumbling avalanches of deep, engulfing, nightmarish washes of the great blankness.  Everything is sick inside; everything is rotting away and becoming poison.  Murder looms on the horizon.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 5 hand-numbered copies.  $10 ppd. in the United States, $22 rest of world.

CORY STRAND "CASTLEVANIA: A REINTERPRETATION" 2CDr (AOW 109)

8-bit HNW terrorscultping using the soundtrack to Konami's classic NES game "Castlevania" as source.  Inspired by Auris Apothecary's tape releases of classic NES soundtracks, I decided to take a personal favorite and transform it into a darkened whorl of feedback holocausting.  I actually still play "Castlevania" pretty regularly (it's a great game to just zone out on when I'm listening to music) and all the frustrations and difficulties I remember from playing it when I was younger are still there.  It was not a simple game by any means, in either its gameplay or narrative ambition, and the soundtrack truly ranks as one of the NES system's best.  Lest you think this set is simply an exorcism of nostalghic feelings, I can assure you this is some of the more brutal wall noise I've created in a while.  Dead and hollow, like so many of Europe's transformed denizens that Simon Belmont runs across in his quest to eradicate the vampire Dracula.

"BLUE VELVET" COMPILATION

ADDENDUM: THE COMPILATION IS NOW FULL.  Way faster than I thought it would.  Super psyched.  If this process goes well I may do more for Lynch's other films.  Thanks everyone!

Saddened by the number of David Lynch themed compilations being put out by various noise labels and not being asked to participate in any of them, I've decided to curate and release my own via Altar Of Waste.  This is an open call for any artists that might want to be included on the compilation.  There are 13 spots available.  If you've recorded for Altar Of Waste in the past I'd love to have you participate in this!  If you are a new artist, please send me examples of your work.  I will select the artists based on my own preference.
Here's how the compilation will work.  I will assign each artist a track from the film's original score (again, I will assign the tracks based on my personal preference).  You will have to manipulate that track into a new piece.  The piece can be HNW, ANW, ambient, drone-whatever you'd like-but you have to use the track I assign you as source.  I am also asking you to create an entirely original piece based on the film-again, HNW, ANW, ambient, drone.  For this, you may use anything you like as source material or record an entirely new piece eschewing any source material at all-the piece simply has to be in homage to the film.  Each piece (both the score manipulation and your original piece) should be between 15-30 minutes long.
This set will be something extravagant along the lines of my "Deathcrush" box.  I want to set a standard for Lynch-themed work in the noise community.  If you are interested in participating, please get in touch with me through email: corystrand@gmail.com
Once I have the roster assembled I'll send out the tracks.  Thank you for your interest-let's make something amazing together!

CORY STRAND "DEATHCRUSH" 12CDr BOX SET (AOW 50)

A very special release to commemorate Altar Of Waste reaching 50 releases, "Deathcrush" is another "love it or hate" style piece of work that is sure to captivate some and revile others.  Those that know me are aware of my deep dedication to black metal, particularly the first wave.  Aggression and philosophy were completely united in the early efforts of Mayhem and Burzum and there was a sense of true anger and disgust, as well as a bizarre occult mysticism that few bands have been able to achieve since.
Mayhem's landmark "Deathcrush" stands as perhaps the best example of that virulent anger, an album that sounds as wicked, brutal, and uncompromising today as it did back in 1987.  In working with the record for my own "Deathcrush," I have attempted to tap into the primitive nature of the music and get to a level of extremity not found in my noise and ambient work thus far.  The six discs of ambient are extremely stagnant and unmoving while the six discs of HNW are stupidly punishing in their simplicity.  Effort was made in both cases to ensure a proper level of intensity, be it a near silent or ragingly destructionist one.  This is my love letter to black metal.  I hope I've done the work proud.
This is the most elaborate AOW release I've done.  Packaged in a box with an insert, an art print, and a bonus CD, my ambient reworking of Burzum's "Aske" EP (only available in this set.)  Limited to a hand-numbered edition of 5 copies.  $85 ppd. in the United States, $97 rest of world.

CORY STRAND "THE SHINING: ANCILLARIES, VOL. III" (AOW 92)

The third volume in a series of recordings utilizing Wendy Carlos' unused compositions for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
"Volume III" is another two song record utilizing the same source material in two different ways, in this case each piece being stretched to oceanic lengths to achieve a ghostly and unsettling drift.  The beauty of Carlos' melodies here becomes a frightening excursion into the shadows of the hotel and the mind entrapped within.

CORY STRAND "THE SHINING: ANCILLARIES, VOL. V" CDr (AOW 97)

The fifth volume in a series of recordings utilizing Wendy Carlos' unused compositions for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
"Volume V" is a massive rework of one of Carlos' reworks of the title theme, here stretched to a magnificent and overbearing piece of complex and hauntingly melodic ambient disease.  One of the more intense and beautiful pieces I've created utilizing these materials, a piece that summons up the bizarre and cross-dimensional majesty of the Overlook and its psychic inhabitants.

CORY STRAND "REIGN IN DRONE" 10CDr (AOW 89)

The second of my tributes to Jeff Hanneman, "Reign In Drone" is a monumental ambient rework of Slayer's classic "Reign In Blood."  I feel like people will either love this or hate it, but for me, I think it's an incredibly massive statement that plays off the original album's severity but in an entirely different format.  In a certain way, "Reign In Blood" was all about intensity and saturation, its short runtime doing little to indicate how exhausting and caustic of a record it actually was.  It doesn't matter how long it goes on-it just has to work.
This set will attempt to wipe you out, but it will also attempt to wrap you in revelry, a celebration of one of metal's most gifted and recognizably idiosyncratic rifflords.  Jeff is gone but not forgotten.
As always, this set comes with two super secret bonus CDs of the masters in their early days, a wealth of unheard treasures and the unbridled aggression of youth.  Go for the fucking throat and never, ever compromise.
Packaged in a twin volume DVD case in a limited edition of 5 hand-numbered copies.  No trades on this one please, as it was a beast to construct.  $75 ppd. in the United States, $87 rest of world.

CORY STRAND "THE SHINING: ANCILLARIES, VOL. VI" CDr (AOW 102)

The sixth volume in a series of recordings utilizing Wendy Carlos' unused compositions for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
"Volume VI" works off of three different Carlos compositions, each taken to an ambient extreme.  The record achieves a distinctly unsettling and dissonant vibe throughout its exhaustive runtime, illustrating an epoch of menace and psychological decay.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 5 hand-numbered copies.  $10 ppd. in the United States, $22 rest of world.

LETHE "OCEANIA" CDr (AOW 98)

The second Lethe full length, previously available digitally, now properly issued.  A continuance of the approach found on "Alleline," "Oceania" sees the tones becoming more difficult and less soothing, with an emphasis on high end stagnant scree coupled with throbbing dollops of bass goop.  Meant to evoke the nightmarish expanse of the ocean, the album paints a vivid picture of the unconscious mind drifting ever further down, slowly trying to ward off the ever increasing pressures of the deep until the body finally collapses in on itself in an explosive pustulent mess of guts and cloudy blood, a ghost of the physical form now become free.  The cracks are impossibly deep down there, and no one knows where they lead.

CORY STRAND "EMBRYONIC DEATH" CDr (AOW 105)

The third and final of my tributes to Jeff Hanneman, "Embryonic Death" utilizes the track "Silent Scream" (one of my very favorite Slayer songs) and manipulates it in three vastly different ways, creating a shimmering aura of translucent ambience giving way to the near silent spectre of death winds and finally collapsing into a  bloody mortar shell of rotting guitar feedback transformed into a towering wall of filth, volume, and disgust.  A journey to the beyond and a self evisceration of the psyche, a testament to Slayer's awesome and consuming power, and especially to Hanneman's keen sense of harmonic dissonance and discordant tonalities.  As usual, this record comes with a super secret bonus CD of the masters at the height of their powers, reigning in blood circa '92.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 5 hand-numbered copies.  $13 ppd. in the United States, $25 rest of world.

CORY STRAND "DEATHDRONE" 2CDr (AOW 104)

The companion volume to "Dronedeath," "Deathdrone" sees the same material manipulated in an entirely different way, with the drones become scorching torrents of feedback and sludge vomited out into the brain like so much offal and viscera.  Violence splashes the canvas in all shades of blood, immolation and sacrifice rendered into normalcy and expectancy by the massage of time and stagnation.  Nightmares are made of dead dreams and death is made of forgotten desires, diseased memories hanging in the corners of the skull, cracking the bone and worming themselves out into the conscious.  Destroy yourself for drone.  Cut your flesh and worship the bloated and obstinate.
Packaged in a DVD case in a limited edition of 5 hand-numbered copies.  $15 ppd. in the United States, $27 rest of world.

CORY STRAND "DRONEDEATH" 2CDr (AOW 103)

An extension of the work begun with "Dreamdeath" and "Drone Deathdream," "Dronedeath" features two crushing new drone compositions leading well beyond the pale and into realms greyed over by the cold brush of infirmity and decay.  Glacially unfolding tones not dissimilar to arctic winds or wisps of the night separated from the sky ooze out from the nowhere, consuming and drowning all in their path.  Stars die and drop from their places in the cosmos, leaving trails of blood and dust in their wake.  The meanings get lost in the epochs, the distances ever greater and more arduous.  You can separate from yourself.  You can leave the physical behind.  You can transcend.  And you will know death.

CORY STRAND 'FOR WINONA" CDr (AOW 91)

Solo guitar destructionism in honor of the beautiful Winona Ryder.  I composed this piece almost 10 years ago, recorded it direct to tape via a shitty open air boombox and then lost it to the scourge of time.  In revisiting the work I've attempted to conform it a bit to the sounds I'm currently best known for, a mixture of the abrasive and the sublime processed into grey washouts of burbling drift and drone.  There's a subtle beauty and melodicism buried amidst the vomits of distortion and volume, glints in the dust of what once was and an ache for those touches we can never have.  An experimental recording for me in every sense, a weird link between my various projects and an interesting statement in my body of work as a whole.  Time can only try to sever memory.

CROWN OF BONE "WOLF CREEK" CDr (AOW 90)

Crown Of Bone returns to Altar Of Waste with another absolutely incredibly tribute to horror, this time in honor of Greg McLean's 2005 film Wolf Creek.  Expanding on the approach utilized on "The Serpent and The Rainbow," "Wolf Creek" finds Crown Of Bone exploring myriad new sounds and textures, creating a work of astonishing complexity and intensity.  The layering on this one is a fucking beast, with Dustin weaving nightmares of high end scree and scorching white noise to eerily melodic washes of keyboards and synthesizers.  Punishing and beautiful at the same time, "Wolf Creek" is probably the best thing I've heard yet from Dustin, a wipeout of caustic musical violence and visceral psychedelia.  Crown Of Bone just keeps getting better and better, and I'm honored to release such impressive and destructive material.

CORY STRAND "THE SHINING: ANCILLARIES, VOL. IV" CDr (AOW 96)

The fourth volume in a series of recordings utilizing Wendy Carlos' unused compositions for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
"Volume IV" deals with two different interpolations of the title theme of the film, each focusing in on the obvious dread, malaise, and horror that await the Torrance family at the Overlook.  The cosmos unfurls into tendrils of forgotten and ghostly blights, converging in a place haunted by depravity and blackened nostalgiah.

The second volume in a series of recordings utilizing Wendy Carlos' unused compositions for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
"Volume II" of the series focuses on two interpretations of the same track, one a slowly unfolding drift of deep and sonorous ambience, the second a scald of bass-heavy stuttering HNW horror.  Stagnancy and a diseased mind united for an otherworldy exultation of encroaching murder.

LETHE "ALLELINE" CDr (AOW 94)

The first Lethe album , previously only available digitally, now issued properly.  The work here is one of patience.  A massive tone glacially expands, becoming ever more persistent and deep.  Staggering in its simplicity but utterly engulfing.  I have always been very proud of this album, of the slowly unfurling depth of it.  This may have been the closest I ever came to achieving what Radigue and Drumm seemed to summon up so effortlessly.  There may have been a certain naivety at work in my composition at the time, but the intent and purpose is obvious.  Huge sounds for isolated contemplation, a communion with the oneness.  Headphones are a must for this one-it needs to be around you.
